How to connect Grok Bot to Xero

There are three ways in. Two are safe, and one, your own login, is the one most people try first. What each lets the Bot do, and the steps for each.

The short answer: yes, Grok Bot can work in Xero. Give it a key, never your password. Xero’s own plugin takes a key you make on Xero’s developer site, one organisation at a time. An Office Voice key takes one sign-in and works for every organisation you connect. Either way the Bot gets only what the key allows, and you can switch it off without changing your password.

In short

Xero's plugin
Under Connect apps. Needs a custom connection from developer.xero.com, one per organisation, each with a monthly Xero fee. Can do whatever the scopes you tick allow.
Office Voice key
Sign in with Xero once, make a key, add it as a custom MCP server. $19 a month per business to read the book and write notes; draft invoices and lawful calls come with Get Paid. Never approves, sends or pays.
Your Xero login
Works, and should not be used. The Bot becomes you, on every organisation you can open, and every Bot you have shares the session.
What no connector does
Bank reconciliation. Xero does not give ordinary apps the unreconciled bank feed lines.

1. The three ways to connect Grok Bot to Xero, side by side

Pick the plugin if you run one organisation, want the Bot to have Xero’s full API, and are comfortable choosing scopes on a developer site. Pick the key if you want it set up in five minutes, run several organisations, or want the Bot to hand debt calls to a service that makes them lawfully. Office Voice is our product.

2. Connect Grok Bot to Xero with Xero’s plugin

Grok Bot lists a Xero plugin under Connect apps. Unlike an app from the Xero App Store, it does not let you just sign in: it asks for a client ID and secret, which you make yourself as a custom connectionon Xero’s developer site. A custom connection is tied to one organisation and Xero charges a monthly fee for each.

  1. Sign in at developer.xero.com with a Xero user who can authorise the organisation, and create a custom connection.
  2. Tick only the scopes the job needs. Apps made since March 2026 use Xero’s narrower, granular scopes, so you can give read access to invoices without giving access to payments or payroll.
  3. Authorise the connection for the organisation and copy the client ID and secret.
  4. In Grok Bot, open Connect apps, install Xero, and enter the client ID and secret in the secure secret card, never in the chat.
  5. Run the read-only test in section 5.

If Xero is missing from your Connect apps list, it has not reached your account yet, or on a team plan your admin has it marked “Disabled by team admin”.

3. Connect Grok Bot to Xero with an Office Voice key

Think of it as a valet key. Office Voice connects to Xero once, through Xero’s own sign-in, and gives your Bot a key that opens only what you tick: reading who owes you, the bills awaiting payment and recent invoices; writing draft invoices, quotes and promise-to-pay notes for you to check; and queuing debt calls that Office Voice places inside calling hours after the Do Not Call Register check. The key can never approve, send or pay anything. Reading and notes come with Connect at $19 a month per business; draft invoices and calls need Get Paid, which includes it.

  1. Sign up to Office Voice, click Sign in with Xero, and pick your organisation. No developer site, no client ID.
  2. Under Keys, create a key and tick what the job needs: Read the book to read, Write drafts and notes to draft, Queue calls to hand over calls.
  3. Paste the message below into your Bot’s chat and click Add it. Enter the key in the secure secret card it shows.
  4. Run the read-only test in section 5.
Add a custom MCP server called Office Voice at https://office-voice.com/api/mcp

It needs an Authorization header: the word Bearer, a space, then my Office Voice key. Ask me for the key with a secure secret card. Do not ask me to type it in this chat.

Running a practice? Connect each client organisation in Office Voice and one key covers them all; tell the Bot which client to work on. The same key also works in Claude, set out in our guide to Claude with Xero.

4. Should you give Grok Bot your Xero login?

Grok Bot can sign into websites in its own browser, so the quick route is to type your Xero password in. It works, and it is the one to skip. Signed in as you, the Bot is you to Xero:

  • Your permissions. If your login can approve bills, edit pay runs or open forty client organisations, so can the Bot.
  • Your name on the history. Every change it makes shows under your user.
  • Every Bot shares it. xAI’s documentation says all your Bots share one cloud computer and its browser sessions, so a Bot set up for something else can reach the Xero session.
  • Xero’s terms. They ask you to protect your login and not let anyone else use it.

For a practice there is more. The Bot’s computer runs in the United States, so client files leave Australia, and the Privacy Act holds you responsible for what an overseas provider does with them. The Tax Practitioners Board’s July 2026 guidance treats putting client information into an AI tool as a possible disclosure that needs the client’s permission. A key solves the login problem; the data question needs an answer either way.

5. Test the Xero connection before you trust it

Ask a question you can check against Xero in a minute:

Using the Xero connection, read only: tell me the total of sent invoices past their due date, and the three customers who owe the most. Do not change anything in Xero and do not contact anyone.

Open Xero’s Aged Receivables report as at today. The total should match to the cent and the three names should be the same. If they do not, fix that before you give the Bot a routine.

6. What to run in Grok Bot once Xero is connected

Each of these is a page with one prompt to paste and a weekly schedule:

  • Xero debtor call list: every Monday, who owes you ranked by what each is worth to chase, then the calls handed to Office Voice.
  • Supplier bill check: bills awaiting approval checked against the rates you agreed, before anyone pays them.
  • Unbilled jobs: finished ServiceM8 jobs with no Xero invoice, drafted for you to check.
  • ServiceM8 quote follow-up: open quotes ranked by value, with the big ones handed over to ring.

Steps as Grok Bot and Xero set them out on 29 October 2026. Grok Bot ships a new version most weeks, so expect the odd label to move.

7. Questions

Can Grok Bot connect to Xero?

Yes, two safe ways. Install Xero's plugin under Connect apps, which needs a custom connection made at developer.xero.com for each organisation, with a monthly Xero fee for each. Or connect Xero to Office Voice with one sign-in and give the Bot an Office Voice key as a custom MCP server. The third way, typing your Xero password into the Bot's browser, works but should not be used.

Is there an official Xero connector for Grok Bot?

There is a Xero plugin in Grok Bot's Connect apps, but it does not sign in with your Xero account the way an app from the Xero App Store does. It asks for a client ID and secret, which you make yourself as a custom connection on Xero's developer site, one per organisation. Whether it shows in your list depends on xAI's rollout and, on a team plan, your admin.

Should I give Grok Bot my Xero login?

No. Signed in as you, the Bot has every permission you have, every organisation you can open, and your name on every change. All your Bots share that browser session. Xero's terms also ask you not to let anyone else use your login.

What can Grok Bot do in Xero once it is connected?

Whatever the connection allows. Through the Office Voice key it can read the debtor book, supplier bills and recent invoices, write draft invoices, quotes and promise-to-pay notes, and queue lawful debt calls. It can never approve, send or pay anything. Through the Xero plugin it can do what the scopes you ticked allow, which can include writing payments, so tick only what the job needs.

Can Grok Bot reconcile my Xero bank account?

Not through any connector. Xero does not give ordinary apps the unreconciled lines from your bank feed. A Bot can only reconcile by clicking through Xero in a browser signed in as a person, which is the login problem again.

Does it work for an accounting practice with many clients?

With the Xero plugin, each client organisation needs its own custom connection and fee. With Office Voice, connect each client organisation once and one key covers them all; you tell the Bot which client to work on. Either way, check the Tax Practitioners Board's AI guidance before client data goes into an AI tool.

Want the key?

Connect Xero to Office Voice with one sign-in and give Grok Bot, Claude or any other AI one key. $19 a month per business.
